Sinazongwe,February 5th -- The Sinazongwe District Development Cordinating Committee (DDCC) says it is concerned over the Batoka/Maamba road which is in a diplorable state despite it undergoing rehabilitation.
The state of the road is most likely to be washed away by the rains and thereby threaten to cut off the entire district from the rest of the country if no measures are taken to address the situation. The DDCC observed that the road that was rehabilitaed by Raubex was poorly done and has called on the Road Development Agency to address the matter. It was observed in the meeting at the Civic centre in Sinazongwe that two portions of the road at Sinakasikili and Vwavwa area the culverts are about to collapse. They also pointed out that the temporal bridge that was mounted in 2007 at Sikalamba stream near Sinazeze area was also about to collapse. Sinazongwe District Director of works Mathews Mashapi said the council has written to RDA over the matter but nothing has been done to address the situation. Mr Mashapi said the provincial roads engineer in Livingstone told him that the spare parts to repair the temporal bridge were in Mulobezi and it required a loader to lift them before they were transpoted to Sinazongwe. Sinazongwe District Commissioner (DC) Oliver Pelete said he would follow up the matter to find out the reason for delay in bringing material to repair the damaged bridge. The DDCC members observed that RDA should not wait for the desaster for them to address the situattion. Nkandabbwe ward Councilor Parston Mangunje also told ZANIS that the bridge has become a danger to the motorists espcially tracks. He said the bridge is about to collapse if it continued raining. Nkandaddabwe Area Development Chaiperson has also disclosed that the bottom road from Sinazeze to Chiyabi is about to cut off people in Malima because a bridge at Sinazeze area is about to be cut off.
