Kabwe municipalty given 96 hours ultimatum
Friday, 05 February 2010

Kabwe mayor Chimbwi Musonda has given a four day ultimatum to his council's Finance directorate to hand in last year’s bank statements.

Kabwe February 5  -- Kabwe mayor Chimbwi Musonda has given a four day ultimatum to his council's Finance directorate to hand in last year’s bank statements.

And Mr Musonda has also directed the council to start levying motorists who park at Shoprite, following the authority from the Shoprite management.

Mr Musonda was speaking during the full council meeting, which took place at civic centre in Kabwe yesterday.

This was in a matter, in which the councillors expressed concern over revenue collections following the failure by the council director of finance Miss Kate Mukonde to disclose the amount of what was collected last year from the road traffic and safety agency (RATSA).

Mr Musonda said the only way the matter could be resolved was by handing in the bank statements so that each councillor could be availed with information about how much money was raised and how it was spent.

He further told the finance directorate to take a serious action over the collection of revenue from RTSA since they had not been paying the council for some months.

The mayor also said the unpaid amount from RATSA financially affected the smooth operation of the council.

Meanwhile Mr Musonda has called on acting Kabwe town clerk Cosmas Mpundu to take full responsibility over the parking space, which Shoprite has given to the council.

Mr Musonda said the parking space, which accommodated 200 vehicles, could help the local authority to raise funds.
