President Banda slams Uganda terrorist attacks |

Kampala-------President Rupiah Banda has condemned the recent terrorist attacks which took place early this month in Uganda.  President Banda confers with his counterpart Robert Mugabe during the AU Summit opening session in Kampala, Uganda.By GEOFFREY MACHAYI
President Banda was speaking to ZANIS in an interview shortly before leaving for Lusaka in Entebbe Sunday evening.
Mr. Banda said the AU Summit attendance was overwhelming despite the recent attacks in Uganda which claimed the lives of Innocent people.
He said the good attendance was a sign that the African continent was united even in times of calamity.
President Banda also said that his Government was committed to reducing maternal mortality ratio as stipulated in the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The President said Government was also committed to ensuring that infant and child health were top on their agenda.
He said Zambia had been ranked number 5 out of 40 African countries in terms of investment per capita in the area of child and maternal health during the AU.
Mr. Banda added that Zambia still needed to work hard despite the positive achievements.
And President Banda said that he was impressed with the Review of Mauritius during the Africa Peer Review Mechanism meeting at the AU on Saturday.
Mr Banda said Mauritius had made tremendous strides in terms of corruption, political and economic democracy.
He asked the Peer Review Committee to visit Zambia for guidelines on how to complete the work needed to be done.
Mr. Banda said he was looking forward to see Zambia peer reviewed by next year.
The President has also said the tour of Lap Green Company, Uganda Telecoms was an eye opener.
Mr. Banda who toured the premises of Uganda Telecoms on Saturday said he was impressed with the operations of the company.
He said he was confident that Lap Green Networks would do an even better job in Zambia.
Libya’s LAP Green early this month bought a 75% stake in Zambia’s sole fixed line operator, Zambia Telecommunications Company (ZAMTEL).
President Banda arrived home last evening.
