UPND MP prods ZESCO to build power station at Itezhi tezhi
Thursday, 29 July 2010
Lusaka----– Opposition United National Development Party (UPND) Itezhi Tezhi Member of Parliament (MP) Godfrey Beene has urged the Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (ZESCO) to start building a power station at Itezhi Tezhi dam in Southern Province.

Mr. Beene said the power utility company needs to commence the works before the rains start as this would be very dangerous to conduct works at the dam.

He explained to ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka on Thursday that ZESCO had partnered with a named Indian company to build a power station adding that the project was cardinal as it would help create employment.
Meanwhile, Mr. Beene has lauded Government’s plans through the Ministry of Local Government and Housing (MLGH) to drill 55 boreholes in Itezhi Tezhi.
He pointed out that plans by Government have long been overdue adding that if implemented the boreholes would go a long way in assisting the residents access clean water in the area.
Mr. Beene also noted that residents have in the past been having problems to access clean and safe water.
Recently, Government announced its plans to drill 55 boreholes in Itezhi Tezhi.
